Review: MOTU Sorceress Mini-Statue
Posted by Lindsay
So after the figure line for for the '200x' He-Man redesign was canceled, NECA picked up the license and released a series of statues to fill out the characters that hadn't been produced. At least that's what I heard. In any case, there is a line of 6” scale “mini-statues,” and this is one of them. I really liked all the ladies of the 2002 series, so I'm pleased to add this piece to my shelves. Previously reviewed: 200x Teela figure MOTUC/DC Two-Packs |
Appearance and Construction: 9/10
This is a beautiful piece. The sculpt is incredibly detailed, and the paint and design looks great. The bird looks great, the stand looks great, and has an interesting design. Her wings are perfect, her skirt is lovely, although her left hand is a bit small.
Why the deduction? Because the arm of the stand which holds the Sorceress in a floating position looks silly from the side, and from the front view the tilt of her face is a tiny bit low. It's just not quite a perfect trade-off of form vs. function here. |

Packaging is serviceable: you can see the figure well.
Play and Display: -1
I knew what I was getting into here. She's a statue. She has zero articulation, unless you count sliding her staff into position. What you see is what you get. Happily, what you see is still pretty great. I was going to go with -2 here, but gave her a bonus for being perfectly in-scale with the Mattel MOTU figures. (See picture at the bottom of the page.)
Price Tag and Final Analysis: 8/10
This is a really nice piece, but it's from a few years back now, and if you can find her for less than $30, more power to you. We paid $30 plus tax at a local comic and toy shop. It's more than I'd like to spend on something this size, but not an amount out of the question for something this nice. Besides it's less than I'd have spent making a custom version of this character.
Although that's still not out of the question... |
