Review: Fellowship of the Ring Elrond of Rivendell

Posted by Lindsay

We love the Toy Biz LoTR line. Back when they were leaving stores we acquired a full Fellowship in 6 inches. You won't see any pictures of them unfortunately, because they have been in storage for some time, and will probably stay there until we move someplace larger.

This line was huge, and they continue to appear in ones and twos in second hand stores and on websites. We continue to fill in little gaps in our roster. Hence, Elrond.

Incidentally, I believe that this figure is "Elrond of Rivendell" to distinguish between this outfit and Prologue Elrond in battle gear (who we have in miniature scale) or any other versions they cared to release.

Appearance and Construction: 9/10

He is so pretty. It's a decent likeness of Hugo Weaving, and an amazing replication of his costume. The detail of this whole line was breathtaking. Look at the hair! The emblems on the shoulders!

He does have a nasty paint scrape on one ear, and a little slop on his crown. His hands are a little bland.

Look at the skirt! Underneath the flowing robe is the long belted tunic.  Behind this flexible plastic is a pleated panel.  Behind the panel are his detailed boots.  Behind his legs is another panel that you will never see unless you look for it!  That's attention to detail.

Packaging and Accessories: ---

Old school packaging has still got it.

You can't quite see in the pictures, but he was actually repackaged with packing tape. Very slick job.

No accessories, but that's okay, considering the detail of the costume.

Play and Display: ---

He's got pretty good articulation, with a few problems. Here's the run-down: ball jointed head/neck, ball jointed shoulders, hinge/post joints at elbows, cuts at hips, hinges at knee and ankle.

It's a pretty good array, but his arms look a bit silly in any position other than majestically to the sides.  And of course his legs are pretty much useless under the robes.  His left ankle pin is loose, but I mostly shoved it back into place.

Price Tag and Final Analysis: 9/10

Elrond was a really good deal for the price we paid, even though these figures were on the market back when $8 was normal. But $5 is a decent price for a nice figure like this any time.

I look forward to one day seeing the whole set together.

Still here? Great! Check out other reviews here at the Bin, or come over to the Blue Fairy's Bookshelf to see what other fantasy novels I enjoy.

And speaking of novels....
