Review: JLU Three-Pack: Amanda Waller, Batman, General Eiling
Posted by Lindsay
I've been writing more reviews here recently because Erin's busy, and I'm... not. But if you're in NYC and need to hire a Stage Manager, call me.
This three-pack was another holiday request from out-of-town relations, since the stores around here just didn't have it. We don't review a lot of JLU figures here at the Bin, mostly because we have so many that we pick up new ones only rarely, and when we do, they mostly are going into my spare 4” figures bin. A few years back I did a bunch of Batman/JLU customizing, and I'll go back to the scale sometime. I still want to do Roxy Rocket. |
But here's a figure I now don't have to make on my own, because Mattel came out with one! Amanda Waller is one of the major non-super characters in the JLU Cadmus arc, and General Eiling is one of her associates. Talk about catering to fan pressure. They made an action figure of a large black woman whose main power lies in information and government contacts. Way to go, Mattel.
Also, there's a Batman. Another one.

Appearance and Construction: 8/10
Batman is Batman. They've released this same, or very similar, figure many many times now. This one has a fairly nice muted blue/gray palette, and no hinged knees. He's got a few paint problems on his hips and a little bleed on his face, as well as an obvious mold mark on the side of his head. But he's still a solid Batman. 7.
Eiling appears to be a repaint of a Two-Face with a new head. The military decos are pretty clean, the color nice, although there's a very subtle color shift between the different plastics used for the torso and the limbs. This one has some slop on the wrists, and one of the painted eyebrows doesn't quite match the sculpt. The look is very close to his appearance on the show, perhaps his head is a little long, and he could really use dark pupils to offset how light his eyes are. 8. But really, if you're buying this pack, it's probably for Amanda Waller. Her sculpt is all new, and quite nice. I personally would have liked a slightly less neutral expression, more determination in the eyebrows might have fixed it, but it's really rather close to model. Waller has relaxed hands, which is rare in this line, as well as a blue ring on one hand. The paint is rather fiddly, buttons and earrings, etc, and pretty good. Mine has a bit of slop near the hands and a tiny line in the right eye. Still 8. As always with this line, check the package in person if you can to get the paint job you like, because paint quality varies between packs. |
Packaging and Extras: -1
The standard DC packaging applies here.
The set includes a plain stand as well. As with most JLU figures the men can stand, but the women have tiny feet. Waller actually fares better than most, but you'll still want to use the base.
No other accessories here. To be fair, I'm not sure what accessories to give to Waller and Eiling. A handgun wouldn't have gone amiss, but other than that... papers? |
I knew going in that only the single-packed JLU figures come with accessories, so it's not a huge deal for me, but still, point deduction.

Play and Display: ---
The angle on the shoulders means that when her arms are up, they are held away from her body, which is new in this line, as far as I know. I really like this, but it's not quite enough for an extra point.
|
Pretty standard 4” articulation on the boys: cut neck, shoulders and “T” hips. Eiling's jacket gets in the way of his legs coming forward, so he can't sit as flat as Bats.
Amanda has a cut neck, a cut waist, and a small amount of movement on her legs where they attach to the torso. I thought the cuts on her shoulders would be troubling, but it actually gives her a few different options. |
Price Tag and Final Analysis: 7/10
If you're getting this set, you probably already tracked it down, unless you are a fan of the Cadmus arc who missed that this pack existed.
These are overall solid with some paint issues, which is par for this line. We have a LOT of 4-inch JLU figures, and yet we don't nearly have all of them. Mattel has really started to get obscure with their “Fan Favorite” releases. If you have a favorite obscure DC character, a little googling should tell you whether there's a 4-inch animated style figure of it. A really large number of characters have been done. |
Depending on how enterprising I feel, I might eventually touch up Amanda's lipstick myself.
