Review: Disney 12" Ursula Doll

Posted by Lindsay

We went back to the Disney store recently.  I took one look at this awesome piece and I had to have her.

I want them to do more villains!  Ursula is part of the Disney Princess line of dolls, not the ones at Toys'R'Us, the ones exclusively at the Disney Store.

This line also now includes ALL the Princes, so I'm hopeful that they are willing to expand it further.

I recently looked at two of the Disney Store Princess dolls:
Jasmine and Pocahontas

Appearance and Construction:  9/10

She's gorgeous.  The sculpt on her torso and arms is spot-on, and the paint is completely clean.  Her hair and expression are fantastic, and note the shell necklace.  How often do you see a doll with her build?  Pretty much never.

Her lower half is plush, with a deep purple velvet-like surface and a slightly sparkly underside.  It didn't come through in all of the pictures, but the shiny spots actually create a sucker-like pattern in the light, which is a nice detail.

My only quibbles are that the purple could be closer to black, and the pattern on the underside of the tentacles could look more like suckers.  Really I'm nitpicking, though, because I think she's outstanding.

Packaging and Accessories: ---

Same Packaging as the other Disney Store Dolls.  I like this design work: it's understated, but still artful and eye-catching.

No accessories, but no penalty. She could come with her eels, but it's not a problem that she doesn't.  Her lower half is almost like an outfit, but it is secured at the 'waist'.

Play and Display: -1

She can stand on those tentacles, which is impressive.  One big misstep here: I do really wish they were wired.  That would give you a lot of display options.  You still have a few variations.

Her only true articulation is at the shoulders.  She also lacks neck articulation.

Price Tag and Final Analysis: 8/10

This is a great doll/toy/whatever.  I paid $10 at the Disney Store (2 for $20, $12.50 for one) and I think that is a fine price for a piece of this quality and uniqueness.

Now, come on Disney!  I would absolutely pick up an Evil Queen and a Lady Tremaine and a Maleficent.  Get on the project!
